Congressman Jodey Arrington has been lobbying his colleagues to keep funding in the federal budget for the B-1, stationed at Dyess Air Force Base.  He talked with KACU's Haley Remenar about the budget, his efforts to get safety net protections for cotton farmers included in the Farm Bill, and his desire to see tougher work requirements for SNAP, which accounts for the majority of Farm Bill funds.

A new housing project in Abilene aims to help patients receiving regular outpatient treatments who live too far away to drive back and forth from home to the hospital. The non-profit building the community on Hickory Street, just north of Hendrick Health System, offers extended stays in tiny houses to patients free-of-charge.  KACU’s Haley Remenar took a tour of Houses for Healing’s first cottage, which may serve as a model for communities around Texas and the nation.

As Hendrick Home for Children lays out plans for a major renovation, Abilene's City Council is discussing whether it's time to reconsider the city's Historic Preservation Ordinance.  The ordinance, which was enacted in 1985, provides over $50,000 a year in property tax reductions to assist owners in the maintenance and rehabilitation of their historic properties.  But some City Council members are concerned that the ordinance gives Abilene too much power if a property owner does not want the designation.  KACU's Haley Remenar spoke with Assistant City Manager, Mindy Patterson.

Each January during the peak of duck and quail hunting season, dozens of falconers descend on central Texas to share hawking stories and meet other falconers from across Texas and other states as far as Oregon. The Texas Hawking Association annual field meet in Abilene is the third largest meeting of raptor owners in the country. KACU’s Haley Remenar has the story.
